Sustainable Smart Village

Lebensdorf, Austrian Model

Villages are places of immigration due to unemployment and irregular agriculture and animal husbandry policies. The village population plans their future by migrating from this region due to insufficient job opportunities in the region and lack of solution-generating policies. In order to facilitate the life activities in the village, we as DSEIN are able to transfer the best practices in Europe to existing villages and towns.

The path we follow consists of controlling and managing the energy needed by the village, waste management, labor potential, marketing of the agricultural and animal products it produces, and the tourism attraction of the region. Sustainable Smart Villages will feed themselves first, and then the surrounding environment and other cities.

In this project, transportation (bicycle, pedestrian, public transportation), energy (renewable energy sources, biogas, biomass, photovoltaic, heat pump, isolation in buildings) environment and waste management (agricultural and animal waste utilization), society (villagers can manage agricultural and animal products) priority was given to the issues of creation of new business areas.

Analysis of Current Situation

The village of Lebensdorf, which was determined as an example model, had a population of 3500 in 1991, a population of 3750 in 2001, a population of 4220 in 2011 and a population of 4600 in 2020, with a total of 2600 households.

According to the 2030 population projection of Austria, the population of Lebensdorf village by 2030 is expected to be 5150 people and 2900 households.

Energy Status of the Village

Looking at the sources of Lebersdorf village, it is seen that the approximate usage period is about 10 years.

In 2030, the electricity consumption of households including businesses is expected to be 25 million kWh, thermal energy about 43 million kWh, mobility energy about 32 million kWh.

If no action is taken, around 100 million kWh (electricity, heat, mobility) will be required by 2030!

Targeted Energy Policy


Can consume the energy it produces; The village that can produce the energy it needs can be a sustainable and smart village.

Here, being able to control and reduce consumption and at the same time increase the energy production of the village are two important big items that we can play.

Today, many settlements that do not feed on sustainability principles consume much more energy than they produce.

For the future of settlements and societies, these rates must change and the production-consumption balance must be established.

For this, reducing consumption, especially heating, mobility and electrical energy; sun, wind, water etc. It is important to increase energy production using renewable energy sources.

Sustainable Energy Strategies

Energy Providence

Providence From Heat

Reviewing the structures of the households, preferring heat insulation, efficient appliances, it is predicted that approximately 50% of the 2900-house Lebensdorf village will be renovated. At the end of the renovation, up to 70% will be saved and it corresponds to approximately 25 million kWh of energy.

Thanks to the change in the behavior culture, 2900 households can consume 20% less heat energy in total. This corresponds to 7.3 MILLION kWh. A total of 32.7 MILLION kWh of heat energy is saved and thus a reduction of 32.7% in energy consumption is achieved.

Providence Electricity

With the behavior culture, 2900 households can consume 20% less electricity in total. This corresponds to 2.9 MILLION kWh. A total of 2.9 MILLION kWh of electricity is saved, resulting in a 2.9% reduction in energy consumption.

Solar Energy (PV + Solar)

Potential of Lebensdorf Village – Photovoltaic (PV)

8 MW photovoltaic plant is envisaged with private and public projects.

In total, we can provide 8 million kWh (about 8%) from solar energy.

Potential of Lebensdorf Village – Solar Energy (Solar)

0.1 million kWh energy production is foreseen from 50 facilities with special projects.

We can provide 0.1 million kWh (about 0.1%) from solar energy in total.



Potential of Lebensdorf Village

With the planned simple and low-cost fertilizer pool, natural gas production, not electricity, and giving this natural gas to the network will prevent losses here.

0.8 million kWh of energy is produced from the biogas plant

The facility consumes 0.3 Million kWh of energy.

In total, we can provide 0.5 million kWh (about 0.5%) of energy from the biogas plant.

In total, we are able to provide 13 million kWh (about 13%) from biomass.

With 100 heat pumps, 2.5 million kWh of energy can be produced.

100 heat pumps consume 0.5 million kWh of energy.

In total, we can provide 2 million kWh (about 2%) from the heat pump.

1 million kWh of energy is produced with 3 existing HEPPs.

With 2 planned HEPP projects, 0.5 million kWh energy is predicted.

We are able to provide 1.5 million kWh (approximately 1.5%) from HEPP projects in total.

0.1 Million kWh of energy is produced from 8.4 million kWh small wind roses from large wind roses.

In total, we can provide 8.5 million kWh (approximately 8.5%) of energy from large and small wind roses.

8-A Fuel Savings: 2900 households can save 10% with less mobility. This corresponds to 3.5 million kWh.

Savings from 8-B Electric Vehicles (60 Electric Cars, 8.000 kWh / year): 0.5 Million kWh is envisaged.

A total of 4 million kWh (4%) is saved.

Total Providence

With the targeted energy policy, energy savings of 33 million kWh from heat energy, 3 million kWh from electricity and 4 million kWh from mobility energy will be achieved in the village of Lebensdorf.

The total amount of savings is calculated as 40 million kWh.

Lebensdorf - Balance Sheet

Considering the overall balance sheet as a result of the targeted energy policies of the Sustainable Smart Village Project;

Among the savings measures to be made, 40 million kWh, 13 million kWh from biomass, 8 million kWh from photovoltaic panels, 0.1 million kWh from solar / solar energy, 2 million kWh from heat pump, 1.5 million kWh from HEPP, 8.5 million kWh from wind energy, 0.5 million kWh from biogas can be produced.

As a result of all these policies, a total of 73.6 million kWh of energy will be produced.
