Walk Project of the Municipality of Vienna
In the city of Vienna, one of the most livable cities in the world, 28% of people make their urban travel on foot. The walking work done to bring the rate to this level draws attention. With the walking map of Vienna, which can be obtained as a printed publication, it is aimed to increase the walking journeys of the city, to provide the opportunity to get to know the city in leisure time and to provide information about the route and the surrounding environment. The map prepared shows the streets, boulevards, pedestrian zones, and footpaths as well as the walking paths and the locations of drinking fountains, public toilets, and public passages around these roads. It is available free of charge and can be ordered online. Also prepared as an application, various information and online routes can be accessed interactively in the city. Vienna Mobility Agency (Mobilitätsagentur Wien) was established to raise awareness and improve conditions for walking and cycling.
Smarter Together Project
The city administration of Vienna aims to use smart city technologies in energy, environment, and transportation issues to combat climate change and improve the quality of life in urban transformation projects. With the project realized in the north-west of the Simmering region; 3 residences underwent “smart” renovation that will save 6 million kilowatt-hours of energy per year.
The “WienMobil Station” at Simmeringer Platz offers a range of mobility services: e-bike sharing, car sharing, bike boxes, charging station, and e-cargo bike.
In the fall of 2019, 4 zero-energy gymnasiums were opened in 2 schools in the region. Thousands of residents have participated in many events of different sizes or have been able to engage in specific project activities.
900 jobs were hired or created by the project.
